Sri Lanka Clinics
A ten-year partnership agreement with a major foundation and the Sri Lankan government has recently ended, with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health due to assume responsibility for clinics / rehabilitation centres in in Vavuniya and Trincomalee Provinces in the far north and east of the country.
Both clinics are in recent conflict zones where the government is not yet in a position to take control of these facilities. As a result funding is needed urgently to maintain these vital services. The clinics are the only Ministry of Health P&O/rehabilitation facilities in these provinces and local people would have to travel over 100 km to reach another P&O facility. The clinics treat on average, 480 patients (20% children) and supply and fit 600 P&O devices per year. They employ seven people with disabilities who act as positive role models for other people with disabilities and the wider population.
